TAMAR RIVER
Species: Gummy Shark, Calamari Squid and Australian Salmon.
Gummy Sharks were the catch of the week off Low Head with some absolute thumpers being caught, measuring 1 metre plus! Anglers having success on both longlines and rod and reel bottom fishing. The common theme was the depth with most anglers landing them in the 40 – 50m depth range on fresh bait.
The Calamari Squid were still patchy with some boats cleaning up and others going hours without even a sighting.
Spinning with silver slices for Australian Salmon off the bank of the river was also popular this week.
TAILRACE
Species: Sea Run Trout.
The Tailrace is still a popular destination this week and rightly so with a number of thumping Sea Run Trout being pulled from the waters.
For those who are not familiar with the Tailrace, the outlets from the Trevallyn Power Station turbines feed into the River there, which provides the Sea Runner with alot of minced Eels to feed on. Fishing with bait has proved to be the most effective method of snagging one for this reason.
BLACKMANS LAGOON
Species: Rainbow Trout
Blackmans Lagoon was the place to be for the fresh water anglers this week with a number of nice Rainbow Trout being caught. Trolling Tassie Devils up and down the Lagoon proving effective as well as Fly Fishing with wet flys.
