EAST COAST

Species: Bluefin Tuna.

Barrels: Slang for big Tuna

The St Helens Game Fishing Tuna Comp is shaping up to be a huge event this weekend with some impressive barrels being caught off St Helens, there have even been reports of barrels spotted breaching the surface in 30m of water down through Schouten Passage. As has been with the past few weeks, the Halco Laser Pros doing most of the damage.

KELSO

Species: King George Whiting.

If you are heading down the river, then it’s a good idea to have some Hayabusa Whiting Rigs in your tackle box as there has been plenty of King George Whiting caught around the Kelso area.

SCHOUTEN ISLAND

Species: Striped Trumpeter.

Striped Trumpeter off the coast of Schouten Island and Bicheno in depths of around 50-70 metres, which makes some great fishing for anglers with smaller vessel.
Bottom rigs and fresh bait the best way to land one.
