Tamar Marine Fishing Report – 4 September 2019

The State came alive this past week with multiple species reportedly caught.

LOW HEAD

Species: Calamari Squid.

Davey Jones rocked up to Low Head and brought his Kraken with him. With huge squid reported around the mouth of the river, 50cm plus in size! Most squid jigs will work well, but a jig in a Red and White colour will give you the upper hand. To keep up to date on Calamari season openings and closures check out the department of primary industries website.

ST HELENS

Species: Bluefin Tuna.

Small schoolies up to the 10kg mark reported off St Helens, Merricks Rocks presenting as the hive of activity. As always Tasmania’s number one Tuna lure the Halco Laser Pro (King Brown colour) working well.

WEYMOUTH

Species: Flathead.

If you enjoy a nice relaxing day out in the boat you can’t go past bottom fishing for Flathead. Easy to fish for, a simple Flasher or Jig-Em rig bounced along the ocean floor will work well. For an added advantage, add some freshly caught bait to the hooks.

BRUMBYS CREEK

Species: Brown Trout.

A great little fishery located a short drive from Cressy. Soft plastic lures in a Black and Gold colour, and for the bait anglers, worms fished in the quiet back waters working well.

FOUR SPRINGS LAKE

Species: Brown and Rainbow Trout.

Now that the opening of Trout season has past, Four Springs Lake is a little bit less hectic. However, plenty of fish are still being caught. The Hawk Sniper – Killer Wasp, Spotted Assassin and Black Widow colours all working well.

BLACKMANS LAGOON

Species: Rainbow Trout.

For anglers in the North East of the state, Blackmans Lagoon still producing quality Rainbow Trout. Deep divers such as the Megabass Shading-X working a treat.

DERWENT RIVER

Species: Monster Sea-run Trout.

There have been some monster Sea-run Trout caught out of the Derwent this week, as always the best tactic is to find a small Hardbody lure that imitates Whitebait.
