ST HELENS
Species: Mako Shark, Blue Eye Trevalla, Blue Fin Tuna
The East Coast town of St Helens is in full swing this holiday period, with many people heading down to soak up the sun and sand.
Mako Sharks for those who are up to the challenge have been reported offshore. Heavy duty gear rigged with large fresh baits the keys to success.
If youāre not up to the task of chasing Mako Sharks there has been plenty of Blue Eye Trevalla caught offshore as well. Shogun Deep Sea Rigs a easy and effective way to snag a few.
And lastly for those looking to venture further offshore to the shelf there has been some decent Blue Fin Tuna landed with some impressive fish being caught already (20kg+). Hopefully a positive sign for the Tuna season ahead, with the water temperature already reaching 19 degrees out on the shelf.
PORT SORELL / DEVONPORT
Species: Snapper, Gummy Shark.
The North Coast of Tasmania is still fishing extremely well for Snapper, with impressive catches being reported all along the coast.
Paternoster Rigs with fresh bait working well, with the odd bycatch of Gummy Sharks being reported.
TAMAR RIVER
Species: Flathead, Cocky Salmon.
The Tamar River is a great place to go fishing if you donāt have a boat, with plenty of pontoons, jetties and break walls along its shoreline. Providing a easy and great way to introduce people to fishing. A small bait jig is all you need to land some Flathead or Cocky Salmon currently in the river.
